Adventures Short-Term Missions: Quito, Ecuador
The rapid changes that many developing countries experience often affect children most. Children need security, care and education in order to develop and be able to make use of their natural abilities. Unfortunately, all too many children are treated without respect and live in dreadful poverty, sometimes even being abused. This summer, Adventures Encounter will partner with two Salvation Army day homes in Quito, Ecuador to reach out to these neglected and hurting children with the love of Jesus Christ. We will also minister to the surrounding communities, including the forgotten elderly population who need help caring for themselves.
We will stay in dorms at NILI, a Spanish-language immersion college in Quito. Groups of 4-6 participants will share a room with bunk beds and hot showers. Every morning, our team will worship and seek the Lord before taking a bus to the day homes for ministry.
Translators will join us as we lead the children in Bible programs and help tutor them with their schoolwork. We’ll organize outreaches to the local community, helping wash and cut hair for the elderly and finding other creative ways to serve as the hands and feet of Christ. Every night, we’ll return to base to worship and share stories of how God is at work. We laugh, cry and grow together as we bring the love and hope of Jesus to the people of Ecuador.
At the end of the week, we’ll take an adventure day, where participants will have the opportunity to shop at a local market, take a picture of themselves standing on the equator, go hiking near an amazing waterfall, and ride a zipline through the sub-tropical jungle.
